My Health Journey

As a kid, I played almost every sport, which always kept me active. I ate whatever I wanted and never gained weight. In high school, I played volleyball full-time and it kept me thin and looking great, along with a quick metabolism. After graduating, my body started to change and react to bad food choices, lack of sleep and lack of movement.

I played one year of club volleyball at Ohio State, which helped me get into shape. Sophomore year, I decided not to play. I started to experiment with which foods to eat and different workouts to help me feel my best. I felt energetic and healthy going into my junior year of college, but things quickly changed. I moved to Italy for four months for a study abroad program. In that four month span, I truly indulged in the Italian lifestyle. I ate all the pizza, bread, and pasta possible. I was staying up late, drinking, and traveling. I gained almost 30 pounds! Now, don’t get me wrong, I had a blast, but when I got back to the states, I needed to make a change. I worked on incorporating the foods that made me feel my best. I started running more and attending workout classes.

I still had my ups and downs. I spent the summer before my senior year as an intern in Milwaukee and gained some of the weight back. Back at school, I got into a good routine and started to lose the weight. I had one last summer before starting work full-time and returned to some of my poor habits. I gained weight and was feeling lousy. It truly was an up and down journey.

It took time, but I have found my personal healthy lifestyle that supports me best. I have balance in the way I nourish my body, along with the exercise routine that works best for me. I try to be mindful with how I feel each day. I teach cycle a few times a week, and incorporate yoga and pilates classes when it feels right. I am conscious about my food cravings, I take my time eating, and control my portions. This mindfulness with food and movement, has been what has helped me the most. I started my health coach training, so that I can share my story with you and inspire positive change in your life. Let me lead you on your journey to a healthy lifestyle that nourishes your mind, body and soul.
